Earlier today, on April 1st, we introduced a fictional "technology" we called StratosStore™, an "atmosphere-based" cloud storage solution. While we’re not quite storing your files in mid-air just yet, we are proud of the very real, very robust infrastructure that powers your data.
Now, let’s take a look at how we actually keep your photos and files safe, secure, and ready just when you need them:
Servers deep inside the Norwegian mountains
All your data is stored on servers located in Norway, in a former NATO ammunition depot. The data center is deep inside a mountain, protected by layers of concrete, rock, and natural shielding.
This unique location isn’t just dramatic; it’s built to withstand everything from natural disasters to nuclear threats. Unlike many other cloud providers, we own and operate 100% of our infrastructure. Your data goes only to Jottacloud’s servers – no third-party storage, no external providers. Learn more about our servers here!
Your data stays in Norway, and stays private
Because Jottacloud is a fully Norwegian company with both servers and operations based in Norway, your data is protected by Norwegian privacy laws and the GDPR.
That means:
- Only the Norwegian jurisdictions affect your privacy
- No CLOUD Act
- No compromise on encryption or privacy
Unlike some other services, Jottacloud cannot be compelled by foreign governments to share your data. Your files are yours, and they stay in Norway.
Secure, but also sustainable
Our data centers are powered by 100 % renewable energy, and we’re constantly working to reduce our environmental footprint. Storing files securely doesn’t have to come at the planet’s expense — and we’re proof of that. By optimizing our infrastructure and using hydroelectric power, we prioritize energy efficiency at every level. After all, the future of digital storage should be green, too.
