The story behind Jottacloud

After becoming a father of two and with a third child on the way, Roland Rabben, CEO of Jottacloud, realized the importance of keeping his family’s memories safe. This led to the founding of Jottacloud in 2008, with a vision to create a cloud storage service that not only secures data but also upholds privacy without compromising on functionality.

The word "Jotta" in Jottacloud was derived from "Yottabyte," which is 1024 bytes, but due to a typo, it became "Jottacloud." Over time, the name "Jotta" stuck and became a part of our identity.

At Jottacloud, privacy isn’t just a feature; it’s a core value. We believe that you shouldn’t have to compromise on functionality to keep your data private. While some providers focus on end-to-end encryption, we’ve chosen to build a service that offers both robust privacy protections and seamless usability. All your files are stored securely on environmentally friendly servers in Norway, protected by some of the world’s strictest privacy laws.

Jottacloud has evolved far beyond its origins as a simple photo storage service. Today, it is the preferred cloud storage platform for everything from photographers & content producers to governments & researchers to securely backup, sync, organize and share their files.

We understand that your digital life is invaluable, and that's why we’ve dedicated ourselves to taking care of it—securely, reliably, and sustainably.
